About The Position

A hospice nurse with the VNA Kansas City program provides compassionate end-of-life care focused on comfort, dignity, and quality of life for patients, usually in their homes. Their role includes managing pain and symptoms, providing skilled nursing care, monitoring changes in condition, and coordinating care with physicians and the hospice team. They also educate and support family caregivers, offer emotional support, and help ensure the patient’s end-of-life wishes are respected.

Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri and/or Kansas.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree).
• At least 1 year of clinical nursing experience (acute care, med-surg, ICU, ER, home health, geriatrics, etc.).
• Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and ability to work independently in a home-based setting.
• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance.
• Basic CPR/BLS certification.

Nice To Haves

• Experience specifically in hospice, palliative care, or home health nursing.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Experience with wound care, admissions nursing, or specialized patient populations.
• Strong organizational, assessment, and documentation skills; comfort with electronic health records (EHR).
• Qualities like empathy, critical thinking, independence, and teamwork.
