Perform horticultural and related groundskeeping tasks under the general supervision of the Supervisor. Required EXPERIENCE Three (3) years recent practical work experience in landscaping operations. Required Landscape management experience. Preferred ABILITIES AND SKILLS Ability to read, write, and interpret instructions. Required Possession of a valid driver's license. Required Possession of a Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, Certified Public Pesticide Applicators License, CAT 6,7 or 23, CAT 24, and CORE, or ability to acquire. Required Knowledge of plant entomology, modern methods of planting and landscaping design, and plant identification. Required Ability to recognize nutrient deficiencies, suitability of the soil for supporting plant growth, and determine site microclimatic factors for maintenance of plants and trees. Required Must have training and/or certification in forklift operation or become trained/certified prior to performing forklift responsibilities. Required Responsibilities Turf Areas: Establish, improve, and maintain new and existing turf areas. Enhance natural plant resistance to pests by fertilizing at proper rates and times. Apply insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, and fertilizer for corrective and preventative maintenance of turf areas. Tractor and push mow turf on all main campus and off-campus sites at the appropriate heights. Recognize and treat nutrient deficiencies in turf. Shrubs and Trees: Select trouble-free plants and trees for new landscape sites to limit pest activity. Recognize and avoid monocultures when selecting plant material for a new site. Apply fertilizer for corrective and preventative maintenance of shrubs and trees. Select, pick up and deliver trees and plant material. Identify and treat plant material for insects and disease. Design and implement landscape bed areas. Edge and mulch trees and landscape bed areas. Water trees and plants when needed. Perform selective pruning on trees and plants. Remove trash and other debris. Rake and remove leaves in the fall and spring seasons. Design, pick up, plant and maintain annual flower areas. Interior Plants: Design interior plantscapes. Maintain all semi-tropical plants, adjust nutrients, detect insect problems, and properly water. Miscellaneous & Specialized: Perform water feature maintenance, including: water chemistry testing, analysis, chemical application, pump, filter and wall surface preservation. Perform basic/minor preventative maintenance on equipment. Install all signs on main campus and off-campus sites. Hang athletic nets, i.e. soccer goals, tennis, and volleyball. Shovel/remove snow during inclement weather. Install and maintain irrigation system installation. Install, maintain and trouble shoot landscape water feature. Repair parking lot asphalt. Prepare, install and repair concrete sites. Maintain and grade gravel roads. Maintain land on of offsite properties. Remove debris from storm drains (MS4 coalition). ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Layout lines, paint, and maintain athletic fields for intramural and intercollegiate sports as necessary. Physical Standards and Special Job Features Lifting 65 lbs. maximum, without assistance, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects up to 50 lbs. Prolonged periods of physical activity in extreme temperature conditions.
