About The Position

The Gardener will provide a ‘Welcome and Cared For’ experience to all by supporting and demonstrating a commitment to Ojai Valley Inn Core Values. Will maintain landscaping of the property by applying general landscaping skills that include: cleaning, pruning, hedging, mowing, weeding and trimming. Will maintain and water all pots located on the guestroom balconies and assist the florists when needed. Must be an energetic individual able to work both independently and closely with other staff members and take direction well. STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS: Requirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge, skills and/or abilities. To perform this job successfully, the incumbent will possess the abilities or aptitudes to perform each duty proficiently. Some requirements may exclude individuals who pose a direct threat or significant risk to the health and safety of themselves, other employees or guests.

Requirements

• General landscaping skills must include: Cleaning Pruning Hedging Mowing Weeding Trimming
• Requires knowledge of: Plant material Pesticide and fertilizer application Light power equipment
• General knowledge of irrigation installation and repair.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Experience in operating power equipment.
• Able to perform manual labor outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Flexible work schedule (some weekends and holidays).
• An energetic individual.
• Able to work both independently and closely with other staff members.
• Able to take direction well.
• Able to stand for an 8-hour shift.
• Able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds.

Nice To Haves

• Diploma or certificate in Horticulture or 1-2 years of related experience.
• Previous experience in hotel/resort.
• Bilingual skills (English/Spanish).

Responsibilities

• Will maintain landscaping of the property and interior plants.
• Apply general landscaping skills that include: cleaning, pruning, hedging, mowing, weeding and trimming.
• Assist the florists when needed by washing and prepping vases, cleaning workspace and additional florist needs.
