SUMMARY: Performs skilled gardening/horticultural tasks and manual work necessary to maintain university properties. Requirements

  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills
  • Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly thorough and dependable
  • Practical knowledge and/or training in gardening and horticultural practices and procedures
  • Practical knowledge and/or training in the pruning, trimming, watering fertilization and pest control of lawns, shrubs, trees, etc.
  • Knowledge of the safe use and operation of hand and power tools used in groundskeeping
  • Exercises behavior in accordance with university policies, the Facilities Missions and statement of Core Values; and complies with safety standards and demonstrates safe work habits
  • Intermediate Virginia pesticide license, within 90 days
  • Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to produce a driving record with a minimum of 3 years of driving history in good standing
  • H.S. Diploma or GED required
  • 2-4 years prior gardening and landscape maintenance and/or training at a college, university, county, city or commercial facility

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree Horticulture or related field preferred
