The Horticultural Attendant performs labor to maintain grounds, operating various hand and power equipment. This role requires some plant identification knowledge and involves tasks such as chemical application, pruning, equipment maintenance, raking, and litter pick up. The attendant will work in adverse weather conditions, may be required to work overtime and weekends, and will operate equipment including riding and push mowers, string trimmers, blowers, backpack blowers and sprayers, tractors, ZTRs, hedgers, edgers, and chainsaws. Other duties include storm debris clean up, drain cleaning, laying sod, weed removal, mulching, digging, grading, cleaning signs, painting, pressure washing, and planting. Specific responsibilities include maintaining grounds, sidewalks, plazas, building entrances, canals, building perimeters, and roadsides in a neat, clean, and safe condition. The position also supports arboriculture services by chipping limbs, hauling debris, performing tight chainsaw work, pruning, and chemical spraying. The attendant will apply chemicals for weed and pest control, fertilize and amend soils, apply mulch, assist with ornamental and flower planting, remove litter, service litter containers, and remove cigarette butts. Maintenance of interior plants, including watering, pruning, fertilizing, relocation, rotating, and treatment for disease and insects, is also required. Additionally, the role involves assisting with irrigation work, digging, grading, drain basin cleaning, and concrete repair. The attendant will perform inspections on mobile equipment and vehicles, change blades and tires on mowers, keep records, assist with preventative maintenance, and support special events with litter control and cleanup.
