About The Position

This position works with and directs Horticulture Attendants, Mobile Equipment Operators, and other labor to maintain the grounds and landscaping of the LSU Baton Rouge campus and other off-site LSU properties. The role requires working in adverse weather conditions, the ability to lift 50 pounds, and involves work on weekends and after hours as necessary.

Requirements

Two years of experience or training in farming, the care and maintenance of trees and shrubs, or groundskeeping; OR Twelve semester hours in a plant science or landscape field of study.
Valid driver's license
Ability to lift 50 pounds
Capable of reaching, walking, stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
Must have physical ability to perform manual work.
Must be capable of walking around the assigned area and stand for extended period of time.
Valid Louisiana Class E License
Subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.
Will require an MVR (Motor Vehicle Record check).
Subject to drug screens per PM-33/PS-67/FASOP HR-04.
Required to report or stay on campus in the event of emergency or closure (in accordance with PS-18).
Will require a physical evaluation based on the physical demands required.

Responsibilities

Works with and directs a crew of other grounds workers, contractors, and/or supplemental labor to maintain the grounds in an assigned areas to levels of safety, appearance, and health as required.
Operates or directs others working with power riding tractors, mowers (usually less that 25HP), entrances, canals, building perimeters, tree perimeters, road sides, etc. in a neat, clean, and safe condition.
Supports other crews as necessary.
Directs others or personally applies chemicals for weed control, pest control, fertilization and amendment of soils; applies mulch to beds and under tree canopies, performs week removal, assists with ornamental and flower planting, litter removal, litter container servicing for cleanliness, cigarette butt removal, etc.
Directs others or personally assists with irrigation work, digging, grading, and drain basin cleaning, and other types of grounds related tasks as needed.
Fills in for a Horticulture Attendant Foreman to direct the activity of 2 or more crews of Horticulture Attendants, Mobile Equipment Operators, and others in assigned tasks.
Fills out time sheets, vacancy paper work, etc., as required.
Performs other work as necessary
