About The Position

The Position Horizons at The Episcopal Academy (HEA) seeks a dedicated and enthusiastic Assistant Teacher to inspire a lifelong love of learning in children. This summer position runs from June 22 – July 30, 2026 , and is ideal for a passionate, collaborative educator who embraces the Horizons mission and contributes to a joyful, inclusive, and academically engaging learning environment. The Assistant Teacher works closely with the Lead Teacher, Reading and Math Specialists, and a Counselor, and is supported by the Executive Director. Horizons values continuity and encourages staff to return for multiple summers to help strengthen the program and community. HEA is a community-centered education program serving students from the Greater Philadelphia area. HEA advances educational equity through long-term partnerships with students, families, schools, and communities. Its core offering is a six-week summer enrichment program on Episcopal Academy's campus, complemented by a growing school-year program that includes tutoring, community service, and cultural programming. HEA is part of a national network of more than 70 Horizons programs across the country. Requirements

  • Completion of all required state and federal clearances; CPR/AED certification required.

  • Flexibility, strong organization, initiative, and enthusiasm for teaching and learning.
  • Ability to relate to children and families from diverse racial, cultural, religious, and neurodiverse backgrounds.
  • Interest or experience in classroom management, social-emotional learning, and fostering noncognitive skills such as focus, perseverance, empathy, and self-discipline.
  • Commitment to understanding systemic impacts on the families and communities served, and to ongoing personal growth and reflection.

Responsibilities

  • Attend orientation and required professional development sessions.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Teacher and Program Leaders, as needed, to design and prepare high-quality, culturally responsive, project-based curriculum in language arts, math, and science for the six-week summer enrichment program
  • Assist in planning community-building activities and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Support classroom instruction in whole-group, small-group, and one-on-one settings.
  • Build on students' academic strengths and help address individual learning needs.
  • Accompany and support students during swim lessons, field trips, meals, and recess.
  • Attend weekly faculty meetings and contribute to a safe, respectful, challenging, and fun learning environment.
  • Assist in evaluating student progress and program effectiveness.
  • Maintain consistent communication with families.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by HEA.
