About The Position

The first primary duty of every employee is to ensure the safety and supervision of our youth. As a mental health facility, employees must separate personal problems from the youth who are entrusted to our care. The growth and rehabilitation of our youth demands a healthy and positive environment. Therefore, negative attitudes will not be tolerated. This position includes leadership and management responsibilities. The Home Manager is responsible and accountable for the hiring, scheduling, management, and training of all personnel assigned to their Home. They are responsible and accountable for the management of the Home's resources. They assess intervention situations and direct intervention support to the youth. They request critical intervention support as needed. They ensure consistent application of program elements to which they are assigned and ensure their team helps each student prepares for the next residential setting within the continuum of care. The Home Manager has contact with students, parents, clinical and educational professionals. Therefore, they must demonstrate quality interpersonal relationship and communication skills. They attend staff meetings, training meetings, and other meetings as required. They conduct in-service meetings for their assigned personnel. The Home Manager works closely with other Department Directors and/or Managers and interacts with other disciplines and departments in a cooperative, professional manner. They promote a climate free of undue conflict, establish effective communications and working relationships among staff, other departments, etc., to create and maintain an environment conducive to good care and performance. They routinely participate in various leadership, management, planning and treatment meetings.

  • Must have good finger control and be able to grasp, perform repetitive motions of the wrist, hands and fingers.
  • Must be able to speak in a clear voice.
  • Must be able to type and work with a computer.
  • Must be able to hear sound with no less than a 40 db loss.
  • Must have good visual acuity.
  • Must be able to deal with hazardous materials appropriately.
  • Must be able to withstand work outside during all temperatures.
  • Must be able to perform job duties with several distractions, including many conversations in the same room as well as phone conversations.
  • Must be able to tolerate verbal abuse and deal with aggressive, hostile and irrational behavior of students calmly and therapeutically.
  • Must be certified in CPR, First Aid, CPI, and Preparedness Training or become certified within 60 days following hiring date.
  • A demonstrated competency in the use of safety holds, restraint, and/or seclusion is necessary.
  • High proficiency to effectively de-escalate and re-direct highly agitated, emotional, and potentially violent youth and situations is required.
  • Self-motivation, with the ability to accomplish tasks with minimal supervision is expected.
  • Must demonstrate a positive attitude, with excellent interpersonal skills, maturity, and judgement.
  • Leadership skills, including the ability to train and supervise staff is required.
  • Must be loyal to the company and be able to keep confidences.
  • Demonstrated ability of good written and oral communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to work with all departments in a cohesive manner.
  • A valid Driver's License and the ability to meet the requirements for approval to drive company vehicles is required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age, high school graduate or equivalent, and able to converse fluently in English.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Behavioral Sciences or similar field is preferred, plus three years' experience working with adolescents in a residential treatment program.
  • Education requirement can be waived with an additional minimum of 3 years' experience as a Home Lead or in a management role in a youth residential treatment program.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, developing, and implementing the Home Treatment Program for their Home.
  • Assure that policies and procedures are understood and followed.
  • Ensure the proper implementation of all Home Treatment Plans and clinical assignments for youth on the Home.
  • Execute special programs to meet the needs of the youth assigned to the Home.
  • Oversee the therapeutic milieu's role in the students' personal rights, discipline and control, behavior management, implementation of the phase program, activities of daily living, personal objectives, home activities, and other related residential care aspects.
  • Ensure that the use of safety holds, restraints, and/or seclusion is appropriate and according to policy, as well as that all authorizations and time frames are followed as outlined.
  • Ensure that proper documentation and other required paperwork are completed each shift.
  • Overseeing the provision of the mechanical functions of the Home, (i.e., allowances, medications, inventories, transportation, amenities, procedures, cleanliness, orderliness, dress and hair standards, etc.).
  • Observing, understanding, and managing the dynamics of the Home, (i.e., peer interactions, youth/staff interactions, staff application of the program, activities, Home climate, stress levels, peer pressure, intimidation and threats, room assignments and combinations, etc.).
  • Ensure that a healthy, comfortable, safe, and clean-living milieu is being provided.
  • Ensure all policies regarding infection control and procedures are followed.
  • Request and direct critical intervention assistance as needed.
  • Ensure that the community schedule for the Home is followed and that students and staff are on time to meals, meds, activities, etc.
  • Ensure that students are packed when leaving for visits, etc., and that their belongings are in Support Services according to the time lines that are outlined.
  • Assist with the intake process of newly admitted youth to the Home.
  • Schedule youth participation in the Community Service Program.
  • Overseeing the Youth Work Program for assigned youth in the program.
  • Arrange and coordinate with Support Services when transporting services are needed, and complete transport paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Residential Care Manager.
  • Identify critical issues in area of responsibility and develop strategic plans for addressing and correcting these issues in a timely way.
  • Develop annual goals, objectives, and plans for the Home.
  • Stay updated of regulations and standards pertaining to the Home.
  • Promote leadership, mission, vision, and values at all levels of the organization.
  • Effectively manage time and activities so as to appropriately address the various needs and concerns of area of responsibility.
  • Lead the hiring process for new employees working in the Home.
  • Oversee the scheduling of assigned personnel.
  • Conduct performance reviews for assigned personnel and submit proper paperwork to Human Resources.
  • Take appropriate actions to resolve and document employee performance problems.
  • Assist employees with career and job paths within the organization, and ensure a succession plan is in place for a documented Home Manager replacement.
  • Follow the dress code and other codes of conduct, while holding subordinate staff accountable for following such codes as well.
  • Understand and implement the training requirements for Residential Care staff, and assure that all requirements are met.
  • Personally and directly mentor, train, and supervise all personnel assigned to the Home.
  • Conduct monthly staff meetings, in-services, and formal trainings for assigned personnel.
  • Document all trainings and meetings, and submit proper paperwork to Human Resources.
  • Accountable for developing close, personal, and emotionally supportive relationships with the youth on the Home.
  • Work with adolescent population in an appropriate manner, maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Able to explain procedures and events in language understood by youth served.
  • Form good relationships with parents, Heritage staff, colleagues, referring agencies, and others related to the organization.
  • Maintain an open door policy to enhance relationships.
  • Demonstrate an understanding and respect for cultural, religious beliefs, and other personal characteristics of the youth in their care.
  • Exemplify the Relationship Model as outlined in the philosophy of the company.
  • Follow policies and procedures regarding student rights, confidentiality, and privacy.
  • Participate in the development of the Residential Care Department budget.
  • Responsible for the development and management of the Home budget, including management of staff appreciation and training budgets.
  • Monitor schedules and overtime of personnel, and coordinate with the Residential Care Manager to stay within budget guidelines.
  • Attend MTP/TPR meetings and keep informed on the specific needs, characteristics, and problems of the youth in their Home.
  • Attend Treatment Team meetings.
  • Attend shift change meetings.
  • Hold and conduct monthly staff meetings as required.
  • Attend Residential Care department planning, leadership, and management meetings.
  • Attend other meetings, as necessary, for the effective coordination of services, and multi-disciplinary delivery of care.
  • Lead daily Home meetings with assigned youth to discuss the day-to-day activities or matters at hand, and resolve any issues / conflicts.
  • Responsible for adherence to Heritage policies and time lines for paperwork.
  • Responsible for MTP/TPR paperwork.
  • Assure that all Residential Care department paperwork and documentation requirements are met in an effective manner.
  • Responsible for assuring that intervention reports are completed within 1 hour of the actual incident or 1 hour from when information of the incident is received.
  • Respond to texts, voicemail, and e-mail quickly.
