About The Position

Position Summary Seeking a detail‑oriented Coding Specialist to perform accurate ICD‑10‑CM diagnosis coding for home health and hospice encounters. This role ensures coding accuracy, regulatory compliance, and complete documentation supporting OASIS submission, billing, and claims processing. The specialist will collaborate closely with clinical teams, physicians, and revenue cycle staff to promote high‑quality patient care and compliant reimbursement. This role works in MatrixCare (Care Matrix) and Epic (EP).

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of ICD‑10‑CM coding guidelines and compliance standards
  • Ability to review medical documentation and identify accurate diagnoses
  • Comfortable working in EHR systems and coding software
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and productivity
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with clinical and revenue cycle teams
  • Professional, reliable, and adaptable in a fast‑paced healthcare environment
  • Experience performing ICD‑10‑CM diagnosis coding
  • One active coding certification from AHIMA, AAPC, or AHCC, including: CPC, CCS, RHIA, RHIT, HCS‑D, HCS‑H, COC, or CRC

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of an AHIMA or AAPC–approved coding program
  • Home health and/or hospice coding experience
  • Familiarity with OASIS assessments

Responsibilities

  • Assign and sequence accurate ICD‑10‑CM codes for home care and hospice encounters.
  • Review medical records and OASIS assessments to identify necessary diagnoses and data elements.
  • Ensure all coding and abstracted data are complete, compliant, and ready for OASIS, billing, and claims processing.
  • Apply ICD‑10‑CM Official Guidelines, Coding Clinic updates, CMS regulations, and internal policies.
  • Use compliant provider queries when documentation is incomplete, unclear, or nonspecific.
  • Work with physicians and clinical staff to obtain documentation necessary for accurate coding.
  • Communicate with home health, hospice, and revenue cycle teams regarding diagnosis coding and PDGM assignments.
  • Serve as a resource to support documentation quality and reimbursement accuracy.
  • Meet established productivity requirements.
  • Maintain a 96% or higher coding accuracy rate.
  • Perform additional coding, data abstraction, medical record, or revenue cycle tasks as assigned.
