About The Position

The Home Health Aide (HHA) plays a key role in supporting residents' daily care needs under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. This position involves assisting with personal hygiene, mobility, feeding, and basic health-related tasks, while also fostering emotional well-being and maintaining a safe, clean environment. HHAs are expected to follow individualized care plans and adapt to residents’ changing needs, always upholding the hospital’s values of Respect, Efficiency, Accountability, and Caring (REACH). Requirements

  • Candidates must be at least 18 years old
  • Completed a New York State Department of Health-approved training program, with current HHA certification.
  • Demonstrate emotional maturity, physical and mental stability
  • Able to communicate effectively in English and the predominant language of the residents.
  • Annual participation in 12 hours of in-service education is required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • A sympathetic attitude
  • Ability to follow instructions and maintain records
  • Per diem work requirements: minimum of 2 days per month.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and feeding assistance.
  • Help with mobility
  • Accompany residents to appointments
  • Assist with medical tasks like catheter care and administering eye drops or suppositories.
  • Light housekeeping and laundry
  • Promote mental alertness through conversation and activities.
  • Observe and report changes in residents’ conditions
  • Offer emotional support to both residents and their families.
