About The Position

ArtCenter College of Design is searching for an experienced Hoffmitz Milken Center for Typography [HMCT] 2026 Getty Marrow Intern to join our team. The salary range for this position: $21.14 - 21.14 Final salary is based on education, experience, skills relevant to the role, and internal equity. About ArtCenter Founded in 1930 and located in Pasadena, California, ArtCenter College of Design is a global leader in art and design education and has had an international reputation for its rigorous, transdisciplinary curriculum, faculty of professionals, strong ties to industry, and commitment to socially responsible design. ArtCenter is a private nonprofit fully accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC). The internship must be completed over 10 consecutive weeks between June 1 and August 21, 2026. The Intern will work 8-hour workdays, including breaks, from 9 AM to 5 PM (with flexibility) Monday through Friday. The position pays $21.14/hr. for 35 hours per week. The internship will take place in the 950 S. Raymond facility at ArtCenter’s South Campus,. The Intern will be required to participate in educational events presented by the Getty Foundation, including an Arts Summit on June 22, 2026, and two Learning Community Events (selected from among July 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23, 28, and 30). Requirements

  • Intern must be a current student who has completed at least one semester or two quarters as a full-time undergraduate in either a bachelor’s degree program or an associate’s degree program by June 2026; OR must have graduated the semester or quarter immediately before the internship begins;
  • Attend college in or be a permanent resident of Los Angeles County; and
  • Be a United States citizen or permanent resident (non-citizen authorized to live and work in the United States permanently). Students with DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival) status valid through the internship period are also eligible.
  • Intern must be able to operate a variety of office equipment and experience with MS Office Suite
  • Students who have previously served as a Getty Marrow Undergraduate Intern at ArtCenter are ineligible for consideration
  • ArtCenter staff members and relatives of its staff or members of its Board of Trustees are ineligible for consideration
  • Students who have received a prior BA, BS, or higher degree prior to the past semester or quarter are ineligible for consideration
  • Students pursuing a second BA or BS degree are ineligible for consideration

Responsibilities

  • Research and write an academic paper exploring Vernon Simpson's professional background and chronicle the history of his press, located in Los Angeles. The Intern will be responsible for researching all possible connections between the LA design community and Simpson and contact those still living in the area for possible interviews.
  • Based on the research paper, the Intern will assist with the planning and installation of an exhibition in the HMCT Storefront Gallery and our Showcase Displays, to open at the end of July or early August 2026.
  • Intern will assist with implementing public programming relevant to the exhibition, scheduling outside speakers, and creating a social media campaign to generate publicity surrounding the exhibition and its associated events.
