About The Position

Mercer Co. Healthy Kids Clinic is committed to creating a safe, healthy, and supportive learning environment for all students. We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse to join our school health team and provide high-quality care to students throughout the school day. As a Float Nurse, you will be assigned to various schools on a temporary or rotating basis to fill in for regular staff members, especially during times of increased demand, staff absences, or vacancies. Your role will require traveling to different schools, ensuring that each location has the necessary nursing support to maintain high-quality patient care. The Float Nurse must be comfortable working with diverse teams, different healthcare environments, and patient populations. Requirements

  • RN license
  • Has demonstrated the ability to work effectively with health agencies, professionals and children.
  • Willing to provide services outlined in the Kentucky Department of Education Health Services Reference Guide.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Maintains require continuing education courses.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in providing health services in all schools to promote wellness and disease prevention by early detection of health problems that interfere with learning.
  • Participate in the implementation of the School Health Policies and Procedures.
  • Assists in the identification of pupils with physical, emotional, or mental health needs and works per protocol toward the solution of these problems by making referrals to appropriate staff or agencies.
  • Reports to the School Health Coordinator, parents, School staff, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school medical matters.
  • Serves as a resource person to school personnel, pupils, parents, physicians, and various organizations.
  • Assists in conducting initial assessments, intervention, and evaluation of students and/or staff members relative to illness or injury and maintains appropriate medical treatment until authorized medical Rx is obtained.
  • Assists with the program for handicapped or chronically ill and aids in the appropriate placement of students with exceptional needs.
  • Assists in providing specialized health procedures appropriate to the student's handicap and gives support to parents and teachers of these students.
  • Performs quality control evaluations on laboratory equipment/supplies used in schools.
  • Conducts special education vision screenings within 10 days of receipt.
  • Documents are all visits in Infinite Campus or IMS.
  • Assists in the prevention and control of communicable diseases.
  • Assists in maintaining a first aid station in all schools.
  • Conducts routine screening procedures according to school board policy and state mandates.
  • Works on exclusion and readmission of students with infections and contagious diseases as outlined in board policy.
  • Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary conditions in schools
  • Attend committee meetings and conferences regarding health services and curriculum when appropriate.
  • Assists families in making appropriate social agency contacts when necessary. Works with various health agencies in the community in implementing health services.
  • Follows district policy in the investigation of physical or sexual abuse and neglect.
  • Adheres to district policy regarding confidentiality on all student health matters and records.
  • Reviews medication logbook ensures alliance with district policies at assigned schools.
  • Performs quality control evaluations on laboratory equipment/supplies used in schools.
  • Conducts special education vision screenings within 10 days of receipt.
  • Assist with data collection: accident reports, student injuries, medication errors for quality assurance.
  • Travel to different school locations as assigned, which may include different cities or towns.
  • Adapt quickly to new school environments, work cultures, and patient care practices in each location.
  • Provide seamless coverage during staff shortages or vacation periods, ensuring that all clinical areas are properly staffed and operational.
  • Work with diverse healthcare teams, including physicians, nurse practitioners, medical assistants, and administrative staff.
  • Maintain effective communication with clinic managers and healthcare providers at each location to ensure a cohesive approach to patient care.
  • Other duties as assigned.
