About The Position

The Float Registered Nurse (RN) at Suncoast Community Health Centers, Inc. (SCHC) provides comprehensive nursing care to a diverse patient population, ensuring quality care in alignment with organizational standards, federal requirements, and evidence-based practices. A Float RN provides flexible, high-quality nursing care across multiple departments or locations within a healthcare organization, ensuring continuity of care and operational efficiency. The RN collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to address health disparities and promote community health outcomes.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and related software.
  • Associate's degree in Nursing is required.
  • Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Florida.
  • BLS is required within three months of hire.

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments addressing physical, emotional, and social health needs, and develop nursing diagnoses to guide care planning.
  • Administer medications and treatments per prescribed protocols while prioritizing patient safety and adherence to standards.
  • Educate patients and families on health conditions, treatment plans, disease management, and preventive care strategies.
  • Adapt to varying environments, workflows, and team dynamics at each site while maintaining consistent quality care.
  • Ensure timely arrival at assigned locations, factoring in travel requirements.
  • Float across multiple departments (e.g., primary care, pediatrics, women's health, walk-ins, etc.) and centers to address staffing shortages or increased patient demand.
  • Quickly learn and follow site-specific protocols, procedures, and documentation systems.
  • Deliver care for chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and asthma, actively supporting disease management initiatives.
  • Coordinate daily clinical workflows, closely monitoring patient flow to ensure efficiency, quality care, and patient satisfaction.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate documentation using electronic health record (EHR) systems to support continuity of care.
  • Assist with clinical procedures, including wound care, immunizations, diagnostic testing, and emergency care interventions as needed.
  • Triage patient calls and walk-ins to assess urgency, ensuring timely and appropriate care delivery.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, nurse practitioners, and medical assistants, to provide integrated and patient-centered care.
  • Mentor and serve as a resource for staff, fostering adherence to clinical best practices and protocols.
  • Respond to last-minute schedule changes or location shifts, maintaining professionalism and efficiency.
  • Participate in case management, quality improvement activities, and clinical committees to enhance patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
  • Lead and support community outreach programs, promoting preventive healthcare and addressing health disparities within underserved populations.
  • Ensure compliance with SCHC and FQHC guidelines, infection control measures, patient safety protocols, and regulatory standards.
  • Employ effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills to coordinate patient care and foster a positive working environment.
  • Serve in a primary area of expertise while providing backup support in other nursing specialties as needed.
  • Engage in community programs and partnerships to improve access to care and promote public health initiatives.
  • Note that travel to various sites for coverage is required, and travel expenses are included in the salary.
  • Perform additional tasks as needed to support the centers.
