About The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented Histotechnician to support our pathology team. Under the direction of the Medical Director and Pathologists, you will be responsible for grossing tissue specimens, accessioning cases, and ensuring accurate, timely, and high-quality results through established laboratory standards.

Requirements

  • Must have an Associate degree, or higher, in a chemical or biological science obtained from an accredited institution OR : Education/training equivalent to the above that includes at least 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution. This education must include 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that includes 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology).
  • Must have six (6) months prior Histology laboratory experience required
  • Able to consistently demonstrate essential clinical competencies for this role and license/certification.
  • Able to wear personal protective equipment (e.g. face mask, goggles, and gloves).
  • Understanding Histology techniques.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively coworkers, lab manager, and pathologists.
  • Ability to work independently while functioning as a team member.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workflow independently.
  • Ability to multi-task while focusing on minute details.
  • Excellent follow-through on all tasks required.
  • Critical thinking skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with computer software is preferred (EPIC, Beaker)

Responsibilities

  • Accession and process pathology tissue specimens following CLIA/CAP guidelines
  • Perform gross dictation, tissue orientation, and preparation for processing
  • Operate and maintain tissue processors; manage reagents and supplies
  • Document workflow in the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
  • Support lab staff, mentor new team members, and participate in quality improvement initiatives
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace; adhere to infection control and safety protocols
