About The Position

JOB SUMMARY: Train to perform quality basic Histology laboratory functions, which include processing of specimens, embedding and microtomy. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: 1. Train to perform processing, embedding and microtomy. 2. Train to operate Histology laboratory equipment, instruments, and interfaces. Perform and document routine and periodic maintenance procedures. 3. Train to perform routine logging for QC/QA purposes. Recognize quality issues and take corrective action as needed or directed. 4. Train to perform basic troubleshooting, identify testing problems (QC, patient, interface or instrument) and notify appropriate supervisors for corrective action. 5. Successfully pass the competency and productivity requirements at the 6th week, 14th week and 26th week grading periods. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent, plus 60 semester hours which include 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry in any combination.
  • Prove immunity to Hepatitis B or be immunized or sign a waiver refusing hepatitis immunization.
  • Provide documentation of a tuberculosis test conducted not more than 90 days prior to date of hire or have a tuberculosis test conducted.

Responsibilities

  • Train to perform processing, embedding and microtomy.
  • Train to operate Histology laboratory equipment, instruments, and interfaces. Perform and document routine and periodic maintenance procedures.
  • Train to perform routine logging for QC/QA purposes. Recognize quality issues and take corrective action as needed or directed.
  • Train to perform basic troubleshooting, identify testing problems (QC, patient, interface or instrument) and notify appropriate supervisors for corrective action.
  • Successfully pass the competency and productivity requirements at the 6th week, 14th week and 26th week grading periods.
  • Acquire and maintain up-to-date working knowledge of departmental procedures.
  • Maintain required competencies by participating in competency assignment and other approved activities as required.
  • Perform computer functions as required by department.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment. Follow procedures to ensure safe handling of specimens, chemicals and laboratory equipment.
  • Note abnormal quality issues and inform supervisor or pathologists as appropriate.
  • Handles hazardous materials and wastes in accordance with safety procedures and regulations. Specific training requirements are documented in TriCores Waste Management Plan, SAF-011.
