About The Position

The Historical Museum Camp Counselor provides daily staffing for our museum summer camp programs. Our camps begin in May and goes through October; requiring staffing from 8:30am - 4:30pm. This seasonal position ensures highly interactive and educational experiences for our weekly youth camp attendees. This position will conduct history-based programs at the Arlington Heights Historical Museum, and outdoors around our museum campus. A minimum age of 16 is required

Requirements

Experience with inquiry-based teaching and engaging diverse audiences, including children and families.
Strong communication, problem-solving, and independent decision-making skills.
Ability to provide excellent customer service and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and the public.
Experience working with children in educational or recreational settings; camp or history camp experience preferred.
CPR, AED, and First Aid certification required or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

Assists with educational, recreational, interpretive, crafts, and camp activities
Assists in creating an activity agenda for summer camp groups for which the employee is directly responsible
Comfortable with learning and delivering historical knowledge to elementary-aged children
Assists in organizing and structuring large and small group activities
Sets up, cleans up, and puts away materials and equipment at the beginning, during, and end of programs
Enforces safety rules during the camp activities
