Performs moderate and high complexity Histology procedures on patient specimens and quality control material to provide slides and data to assist in the diagnosis and/or treatment of disease. May perform non-physician gross examinations and/or high complexity staining procedures as required by location or shift. Demonstrates sound decisions making skills when evaluating quality control results, checking abnormal or unexpected results for accuracy. Seeks guidance from pathologist or supervisor when appropriate. Operates and maintains instruments and equipment according to manufacturer's recommendations and departmental policies and procedures. Documents all quality control data. Participates in section activities involving quality assessment and improvement, research and development of new procedures, and training and orientation of new employees. Effectively communicates and demonstrates good customer service throughout the health system to include nursing staff, physicians, patients, co-workers and other LMHS customer and employees.
