Comply with all safety regulations. Routine handling of biohazards and/or chemically hazardous material. Special projects and other duties as assigned by manager. Ensure all correct clinical data/information is entered into the laboratory information system (i.e., order entry, patient demographics and/or results). Able to perform routine histology from accessioning to cover slipping. Preparation of material for staining, including cutting paraffin sections. Properly embed processed tissue. Cut and stain re-cut slides, special stains, and esotaic test requested by pathologist. Maintain, troubleshoot and running of complex automated equipment. Maintenance lab reagents and supply inventory needed for daily staining procedures. QC and QA of adequate control material needed for tests within laboratory. Under the direction of the laboratory manager, the histotech will perform repetitive or routine duties working from written procedures. Routine work encompasses working with chemical/biohazardous material. All safety policies and practices are to be followed.
