About The Position

The USC Keck School of Medicine is seeking to hire a full-time Histology Technician I who will be responsible for performing technical procedures and tasks supporting the day-to-day operations of the AP Histology Laboratory within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. In addition, he/she will provide technical expertise to ensure proper functioning of the laboratory division for optimal quality, efficiency, productivity, and turnaround times. The Keck School of Medicine Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is one of the largest pathology departments in the United States. The Department aims to shape the future of pathology as it will be practiced in community hospitals, academic medical centers, and clinical laboratories throughout the country. The Department is growing very rapidly, and there is a great opportunity for advancement in the Anatomic Pathology Laboratories. The University offers a competitive salary package .

Requirements

  • Related undergraduate study Or Related undergraduate study Biology Or Related undergraduate study Chemistry
  • American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) issued certification or eligibility within one year of employment.
  • Addtional Education Requirements Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
  • 1 year

Responsibilities

  • Prepares tissue sections for microscopic examination using a variety of techniques, including fixation, embedding, cutting, and staining tissue slides to achieve high diagnostic quality.
  • Prioritizes and accurately performs all designated departmental procedures, including embedding, microtomy, staining (special stains), decalcification, coverslipping, and labeling.
  • Operates precision equipment and works with a variety of reagents and chemicals to make tissue abnormalities visible with a microscope.
  • Prepares and maintains solutions required for all procedures.
  • Identifies, labels, and processes tissue according to specifications.
  • Maintains equipment, cleaning, changing solutions, taking temperatures, and replenishing supplies and solutions as needed.
  • Responsible for maintaining compliance with all applicable state and federal regulatory agencies.
