Under general supervision of the Histology/Cytology Manager or General Lab Management, Wellstar Health System Laboratory and direct supervision of the Histotechnology Supervisor or Lab Manager, the Histologic Technologist is responsible for the complete preparation of all routine surgicals, autopsy tissues including frozen section, sendout procedures, processing, cutting, staining and coverslipping. The role also involves cytology preparation, histochemistry, immunohistochemistry (Antibody optimizing and validation), and requires general knowledge of techniques, principles, instrumentation, and troubleshooting abilities. The technologist confirms and distributes completed surgical cases and reports, performs some clerical duties involving filing, retrieving tumor and consult requests, and must have full knowledge of regulatory policies.
