About The Position

Action Inc.'s COMPASS Youth Program is dedicated to supporting out-of-school young adults ages 16-24 in earning their HISET/GED (High School Equivalency). COMPASS is a safe, flexible program that not only prepares students for their exams but also helps them overcome barriers through one-on-one counseling, college and job preparation, career guidance, and life skills coaching. The program is FREE for eligible Cape Ann residents and offers a supportive learning environment, flexible scheduling, and transportation to Compass and the HISET testing center. We are seeking a passionate, adaptable Instructor to join our COMPASS Youth Program and help young adults ages 16-24 earn their HiSET/GED. This role provides individualized tutoring and academic support to students of varying skill levels, helping them prepare for the Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies subtests. Requirements

  • Proven track record of helping students achieve high educational outcomes.
  • Ability to work patiently and empathetically with students of varying skills and abilities who come from diverse backgrounds.
  • Previous experience working with opportunity youth.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Employment eligibility will be verified through E-Verify upon hire.
  • Ability to comply with and successfully complete a CORI background check before the start of employment.
  • Master's degree in education or bachelor's degree with a minimum of three year's experience in a diverse educational setting that serves out of school young adults, or equivalent

  • Previous experience with HISET/ GED preparation preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Help students prepare for the High School Equivalency Test (HISET), teaching them through individualized tutoring sessions and/or small classes.
  • Adapt teaching style to meet the unique needs of students.
  • Administer the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) assessment.
  • Collect, track, and enter all relevant data such as student academic standing, progress and achievements in the agency database and to funders as needed.
  • Monitor student educational progress through one-on-one meetings, classroom observation, and assessments.
  • Communicate with students regarding scheduling and academic progress.
  • As is beneficial, utilize Zoom, email, and online educational programs to further student academic progress.
  • Help students prepare for college placement tests and assist with academic support through their post-secondary programs, as needed.
  • As funding allows, Compass assists students who are enrolled in local high schools with completing credit recovery programs. Oversee the academic progress of those students and grade work.
  • Assist students in creating HISET accounts and signing up for tests.
  • Update data tracking systems with student scores.
  • Stay up to date with academic best practices and engage in professional development trainings.
  • Attend and participate in departmental, organization-wide, and other meetings.
  • Act in the best interest of the organization, reflecting the values of teamwork, collaboration, and mutual respect.
