About The Position

This is a paraprofessional position with responsibility for providing one-on-one curriculum instruction with parents, in their homes or in a community-based setting (for group meetings), and will supply the parent with weekly HIPPY activity packets. The position provides a broad range of services including developing and maintaining formal relationships within the community; develops and maintain linkages with various community resources; and to be a role model and advocate for families and children.

Requirements

  • The position requires frequent and moderately complex and often highly confidential communications with agency personnel and outside sources as a regular part of the job.
  • Work is varied with some innovation required.
  • Problems to be solved have a moderate degree of complexity.
  • Must exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance.
  • Requires good communication, reading, and writing and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of existing community-based organizations, networks, and the informal structure of the neighborhood, i.e. clubs, churches, civic groups, social organizations, etc.
  • Must be able to develop and maintain effective working relationships and possess the ability to relate to people of diverse educational, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
  • Evening and or weekend hours will be required of the individual holding this position.
  • This position works primarily off-site, requiring reliable transportation, a good driving record, and passing a background check.
  • Graduation from High School or possession of a GED certificate and a minimum of one year of experience with children and families is required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an active schedule/case load and have regular contact with clients, community resources, and agency personnel.
  • Spend the majority of time in the community with families enrolled in the program
  • Instruct the parent in the upcoming week's material, using role play technique
  • Develop and maintain linkage with various community resources, including churches, civic groups, clubs, and organizations, law enforcement, schools, social human services and employment training services in the target community.
  • Plan and prepare for weekly home visits.
  • Maintain records (activity logs, client contact, and case notes)
  • Assist with staff meetings, check eligibility, review home visitors’ weekly reports and files, and plan activities for group meetings
  • Collect pre-selected activity sheets and meet with the coordinator on a weekly basis.
  • Assist in the preparation, provision, and clean-up of the group meeting.
  • Participates in staff development and lead staff meetings.
  • Timely completion and submission of paperwork
  • Develop and maintain a thorough familiarity within the community and at the Center and how to gain access to the services.
  • Check eligibility monthly and collect participants' birth certificates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
