About The Position

Texas NeuroRehab Center is a specialized treatment facility located ten minutes from downtown Austin on 67 wooded acres. Originally a cattle ranch, the land was purchased in 1943 as part of The Brown Schools and has operated as a medical rehabilitation and behavioral healthcare facility for over 80 years. Today, Texas NeuroRehab Center provides complex medical and brain and spinal cord injury rehab for ages 13 years and older and neuropsychiatric treatment for youth. The capabilities of the facility as a whole allow for integrated and specialized care for children, adolescents and adults facing difficult challenges. Texas NeuroRehab Center is internationally known for improving the quality of life for many children; adolescents and adults, and it will continue to provide innovative approaches to neurobehavioral healthcare. This candidate will monitor completeness of patient records to satisfy the standards established by the funding sources, and accreditation bodies. Retrieves, assembles, and conducts preliminary discharge analysis of patient medical records. Assembles discharge records and assists in daily medical records maintenance to meet Health Information Management needs of the facility.

Requirements

  • Good verbal and written skills, has an aptitude to learn quickly, can work independently with little supervision, good organizational skills and type 45 wpm. Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public. Proficient in Windows XP and Microsoft Office.
  • Associate of Applied Science Degree in Health Information Management, or Certified Coding Specialist with coding experience.
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Associate (CCA).
  • Minimum of one year experience in a Health Information Management environment setting.
  • Able to sit or stand while interacting with patients, families, and staff.
  • Able to write/type for extended periods of time.
  • Able to travel between various hospital areas.
  • Able to use telephone for extended periods of time.
  • Able to deal with stressful situations and changing priorities.
  • Able to sustain physical activity eight hours a day.
  • Able to remain on feet eight hours per day.
  • Able to lift, carry, and lower 25 pounds without assistance.
  • Able to use the computer for extended periods of time.
  • Able to hear, verbally communicate/speak clearly, and vision sufficient to perform essential job functions.
  • Emotional stability sufficient to perform essential job functions and deal with changing priorities.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer at least 1-3 years of recent hospital coding experience with inpatient or outpatient records.
  • Attention to detail (such as interpretation of clinical data including medical terminology and disease processes).
  • Analytical skills for abstracting of clinical data.
  • Ability to interpret regulatory and payer rules and directives concerning coding.
  • Computer experience in Microsoft word and excel.
