By joining our District 12, Johnson County Maintenance Garage as a Highway Technician Assistant I in Johnson County, you’ll have the opportunity to performs general level work and assist with intermediate level work in roadway or roadside maintenance operations. Summary of Responsibilities: Operating Equipment: Operate single axle dump trucks to haul materials, snowplows, salt spreaders, and mowing machines efficiently and safely. Brush Cutting and Tree Maintenance: Perform brush cutting operations using chain saws, bush axes, or chemical treatments to ensure clear visibility and safety on roadways. Traffic Control: Flag traffic for maintenance crews during operations to guarantee the safety of team members and the public. Snow Removal: Effectively operate snowplows and salt spreaders to clear roadways during winter weather conditions. Roadway Repair: Shovel blacktop and perform other roadway maintenance-related activities as required. Ideal candidate will have experience in: Equipment Operation Experience: Proven experience operating single axle dump trucks, snowplows, salt spreaders, mowing machines, chain saws, and bush axes. Traffic Control Knowledge: Understanding of traffic control procedures and ability to flag traffic safely. Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including shoveling and operating heavy machinery. Safety Conscious: Strong commitment to safety protocols and guidelines. Required to work on State Highway with oncoming traffic to perform roadway repairs. Must be able to work extended hours and be outside during inclement weather.
