By joining our Green County Unit as a Highway Technician Assistant I in Green County, you’ll have the opportunity to take advantage of classroom and in-field trainings to allow for continued education to become specialized in road and construction maintenance operations and help maintain 176 miles of state roadways in Green County. Summary of Responsibilities: Hauling materials to and from job sites. Operating dump trucks with snowplow and salt spreader to work in the winter months Operate a tractor-type mowing machine, assist in brush cutting, and use chemical sprayers Learn and assist with basic surveying activities on construction projects Flag for operations requiring traffic control Ideal candidate will have experience in: Experience working on rough terrain and in all weather conditions Experience with general labor or trades Experience in equipment operation for road maintenance We seek individuals who are self-motivated, strive for quality results, take pride in their accomplishments and have a desire to advance in their personal development We welcome applicants at any experience level and who are eager to learn from others Benefits and Perks: Comprehensive health with optional dental and vision insurance. Will be exposed to risks inherent to roadway maintenance and construction sites. Position will oversee winter snow and ice clearing operations and will be expected to work in inclement weather and during night shifts and overtime during those operations. Requirements

  • High school graduate.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification.
  • Within 12 months of employment in this job classification, employees in this classification must furnish the agency's appointing authority with documentation that he or she holds a valid Class B commercial driver's license.
  • Within one year of employment in this job classification, the employee must complete First Aid and Snow and Ice Training and must possess Traffic Control/Flagger and OSHA 10 Certifications or equivalent.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
  • Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.
