Highway Maintenance Workers are certified by the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) to operate a variety of complex or specialized highway maintenance and construction equipment in order to restore and maintain the integrity of roadway surfaces; maintain roadside slopes, shoulders, culverts and ditches to restore drainage and prevent erosion; and repair or replace related roadway appurtenances such as guardrails, markers, guide posts and fences. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. This position is a safety sensitive position that is required to maintain roads and associate appurtenances on all state roadway systems within the crew's boundary. In the course of regular maintenance and flagging operations it is essential to have crews fully staffed to run all associated equipment within the operation. This is a lead worker position who acts as a certified designated equipment operator who trains lower-level staff. Serves as lead worker and as an assistant to the Highway Maintenance Supervisor I. Reviews the work of other personnel and provide input into performance evaluations and acts as the Supervisor I when needed.
