About The Position

GFT is currently seeking a Highway Designer to join our Eastern PA Highway Team. This hybrid position will be based out of either Audubon, Philadelphia or Allentown, PA Offices. This is an exciting time to join our growing GFT team! What you’ll be challenged to do: The successful candidate will be focused on designing projects for clients such as Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission and municipalities. The candidate will be able to grow as a civil/highway designer for transportation and/or municipal projects. The candidate will work with highway team members to deliver quality projects and develop client relationships through project delivery. This position requires effective time management, technical and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will be articulate with a professional presence and solid decision-making, planning and organizational skills. The desire to increase your knowledge, expertise, leadership skills, and relationships over time is a must. The work you'll do: As part of a team, perform engineering design tasks for transportation and/or municipal projects including studies, preliminary engineering, and final design. Learn about design tools including Microstation and Open Roads software. Develop construction contract documents including plans, specifications, cost and estimates. Establish working relationships and contact with client technical staff and project managers especially in PennDOT, local governments, and private clients Learn about different aspects of highway and municipal design and help develop transportation construction plans, including but not limited to cross sections, traffic control, drainage, and signing and pavement markings plans Collaborate with Eastern Pennsylvania Highway staff to complete tasks. The desire to grow your knowledge, expertise, leadership skills, and relationships is desirable. What you will bring to our firm: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent required Expertise with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook) Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to work in a team environment, self-motivated, demonstrated organizational skills, team player, and commitment to continuous improvement.

Nice To Haves

  • Fundamentals of Engineering (EIT) License registered in Pennsylvania or the ability to obtain within 6 months is preferred.
  • Prior experience with Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and/or Pennsylvania Turnpike projects is desirable but not required.
