This is an exciting opportunity to join our friendly, dynamic and supportive team in the Cardiac Investigation Department, Heart and Lung Centre in Wolverhampton. This is a tertiary cardiothoracic centre with 18 cardiologists, 6 cardiac surgeons and 2 thoracic surgeons. The cardiology department provides a 24/7 primary PCI service, TAVI, Mitra Clip, left atrial appendage occlusion, PFO closure, heart failure clinic, adult congenital heart disease clinic, complex EP service, and the full range of implantable electronic cardiac devices. We are looking for a fully BSE accredited Cardiac Physiologist to join our busy, friendly and supportive Cardiac Investigation Department. Consideration will be given to those candidates who have not yet fully gained accreditation, however, are almost independent with practical and reporting skills and close to completion. Advert To participate in the provision of the full technical echo service to BSE and local standards. To provide an efficient running of the technical service by prioritising daily workloads. To maintain standards of technical competency in the provision of non-invasive diagnostic cardiac procedures. To take shared responsibility for the daily review and prioritising of inpatient requests for echocardiograms, by liaising with ward/medical staff and ensuring availability of technical staff/resources. To contribute to the day to day running of the echo service, ensuring that all equipment is operational and clean and that stock levels are adequate. To promptly report equipment faults and directly resolve these with the relevant company engineers. To provide first line interpretation and full technical reports of individual tests performed whilst reviewing/assisting with the reporting of studies performed by junior staff. To participate/lead in bi-weekly Echo MDT meetings To respond to emergency situations appropriately, maintaining relevant BLS/ILS training. To assist with research studies as required. To remain up to date with latest trends in clinical physiology, translating these into practice and disseminating knowledge to staff. To ensure all patients receive appropriate and individualised care. To undertake other area of service provision if required. Detailed job description and main responsibilities The post holder will: Be a fully BSE accredited Cardiac Physiologist or recently completed the ETP training programme or be close to full completion to successfully achieve certified competence as awarded by the BSE. Take ownership for own learning and professional development to maintain personal portfolio. Perform and interpret routine Transthoracic Echocardiograms. Perform and interpret other cardiac diagnostic tests to meet with service needs. This may include ETT, Tilt, analysis, TAVI and Coronary intervention (PCI) including primary PCI intervention 24/7 (relevant training will be given as necessary) Undertake high quality TTE studies adhering to relevant clinical guidelines and protocols with support required as needed. Work within the echocardiography service across both hospital sites and possible weekend cover (New Cross and Cannock) Work effectively within the department team to ensure delivery of a patient focused, quality service. Be involved in the training and development of future Echocardiographers and contribute to a progressive learning environment for all members of the department. Work within the principles of good scientific practice including participation in QA/QC and involvement of research projects. Help develop the echocardiography service, with innovative and novel approaches, to maintain high levels of patient care amidst an ever-increasing demand for diagnostic healthcare.
