Old Redford Academy is hiring a High School Social Studies Teacher for the 26/27 School Year. Must have teacher certification and endorsement in the subject. Job Summary : We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Social Studies Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of social studies concepts, a passion for teaching, and the ability to engage students in meaningful discussions about history, geography, economics, and social issues. The Social Studies Teacher will create an inclusive classroom environment that encourages curiosity, respect, and a genuine interest in the social sciences.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Social Studies Education, History, Political Science, or a related field.
- Valid teaching certification/license in Michigan for secondary education with an endorsement in the subject.
- Strong knowledge of social studies curriculum, educational best practices, and assessment methods.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning and assessing educational activities.
Nice To Haves
- A master's degree is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Encourage critical thinking and discussions around social studies topics, including but not limited to history, culture, citizenship, and global issues.
- Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans that meet the curriculum standards and cater to diverse learning styles.
- Develop assessments and monitor student performance through various methods, including tests, quizzes, projects, and presentations.
- Collaborate with colleagues to align curricula and participate in ongoing professional development initiatives.
- Participate in school activities, meetings, and events to contribute to the overall mission of the institution.
- Maintain a safe and positive environment for all students
- Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and school staff
- Regular and predictable attendance
- Supervision of multiple students at once

- Maintaining a safe and orderly environment
- Create and implement instructional plans
- Participate in continuous professional development
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Occasionally lift/move objects weighing up to 25lbs
- Stand and walk frequently
- Occasionally sit on the floor or bend down/squat
- Withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year
- Withstand a moderate noise level
- Be able to perform first aid/CPR if necessary
- Assist/lift students, as necessary
