About The Position

Aug Prep is more than a school, it's a community where excellence, faith, and holistic education come together. We’re not only about high standards but also creating a place where people love to grow, learn, and inspire! We currently serve over 2,400 K4-12 students in our ninth year at our South Campus. We are thrilled to launch our North Campus in the 26-27 school year, initially serving about 300 students in grades K4-6 and 9. In This Role, You Will be an exceptional collaborator and team player, have a deep understanding of cultural and human history within the content area, and an ability to connect with and inspire students. We are particularly interested in educators passionate about working in a diverse education setting as a part of a high-performing, driven staff. Ideal candidates will also be well versed in strategies to promote metacognitive engagement and be willing to go the extra mile for students. Candidates should be organized, detail oriented, and show expertise in developing lesson plans.

Requirements

  • A belief in the ability of every child and a commitment to ensure excellence for each student.
  • A bachelor’s degree in History, Political Science, Economics, Social Studies Education, or a closely related field is required, along with any additional accreditation requirements. A master’s degree is preferred, and a state teaching license is not required.
  • Active participation in a Christian church.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Team player committed to the St. Augustine Preparatory mission and model.
  • Expertise in teaching methods that emphasize historical inquiry and research skills.
  • Deep content knowledge in multiple social studies disciplines.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to facilitate dynamic classroom discussions on complex and sometimes sensitive topics.
  • Lastly and most important, the candidate must demonstrate and possess the highest integrity, and be able to live the values, beliefs, and culture of St. Augustine Prep.

Nice To Haves

  • Proven experience in teaching or student teaching high school social studies classes; experience teaching honors or AP-level courses is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver rigorous, engaging instruction and ensure every learner meets or exceeds academic goals.
  • Grounded in a deep belief in the potential of every student, implement instructional strategies to provide individualized and small group instruction by adapting the 9-12 curriculum to meet the needs of each pupil.
  • Use academic data to modify both whole and small-group instruction in order to best meet the needs of their students.
  • Plan and Deliver Instruction: Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and standards-aligned lessons for high school social studies courses, encouraging students to analyze complex historical and contemporary issues.
  • Foster Critical Analysis: Guide students in analyzing primary and secondary sources, evaluating different perspectives, and constructing well-supported historical arguments and informed civic opinions.
  • Integrate Current Events: Connect historical and theoretical concepts to relevant current events and global issues to make the subject matter timely and relevant.
  • Differentiate Learning: Adapt instruction, materials, and assignments to meet the varied learning needs, abilities, and interests of all students, including those with IEPs or ELL status.
  • Address Standards: Prepare students for standardized tests and advanced placement (AP) exams in subjects such as AP U.S. History, AP Government, or AP World History, where applicable.
  • Evaluate Performance: Administer a variety of assessments, including essays, research papers, debates, presentations, and objective tests, to accurately measure student comprehension and critical analysis skills.
  • Maintain Records: Accurately record and report student attendance, grades, and progress in compliance with school and district policies.
  • Prepare for Exams: Prepare students for standardized tests and college-level exams, such as the SAT, ACT, or Advanced Placement (AP) exams where applicable.
  • Create a Positive Environment: Establish a safe, organized, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respectful discussion, debate, and intellectual curiosity.
  • Promote Civic Literacy: Encourage civic responsibility and active participation in democratic processes.
  • Utilize Resources: Effectively integrate educational technology, maps, digital resources, and multimedia to enhance instruction.
  • Utilize Technology: Integrate educational technology, software, and resources into the social studies curriculum to enhance learning experiences.
  • Build trusting relationships with students so each child feels known, seen and loved.
  • Serve as the cultural and spiritual model for their students, always interacting respectfully and striving to demonstrate God’s love to their students and families.
  • Support students’ character development by modeling and reinforcing the Aug Prep Way: serving in love with integrity, respect, courage and perseverance.
  • Communicate proactively and consistently with students, families, and colleagues, providing frequent updates on student progress, classroom activities, and school initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively and supportively with colleagues, supervisors, students, parents/guardians, and community members, maintaining positive, solution-oriented relationships that foster a strong, inclusive environment for optimal learning.
  • Continuously seek professional growth through building and department meetings/professional development, formal coursework, workshops, and seminars/in-services.
  • School Duties: Perform other related tasks as assigned, such as supervising students outside of class (hall duty, lunch duty) or advising extracurricular activities (like a Math Club or coaching).
  • Serve with a flexible, open heart that recognizes no duty is outside the scope of your role--we are a team that is stronger together in service of our students. The first few years of our school you may be asked to serve outside of your roll or area. We are looking for someone who is ready to roll up their sleeves and help in any way needed.
