About The Position

At GLOW Academy, the Girls Leadership Academy of Wilmington, the focus is on "whole girl" education, fostering leadership and confidence, and building family support, all while engaging students in a rigorous college preparatory program. This includes leadership development, early college and career awareness, health and wellness, and expanded opportunities in science, technology, math, and the arts. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching North Carolina State Standards for High School Science and be competent in a diverse learning environment, teaching courses like Earth and Environmental, Biology, Chemistry, and Physical Science. They value teachers who see learning as a lifelong endeavor and are willing to grow and refine their teaching.

Requirements

  • NC Teacher Certification in the subject area and relevant grades
  • Demonstrated ability to teach high school and/or grades 6-12 with a passion for and competency in the appropriate subject area
  • Experience in teaching high school Science
  • Demonstrated ability to build a warm and inclusive classroom environment, implement positive behavior practices, and build strong relationships with students and families to support student success
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and facilitate rigorous and engaging lessons aligned to the content standards outlined in the NC Standard Course of Study
  • Awareness of educational issues regarding the academic and social development of a diverse population of students, including minority and socioeconomically disadvantaged adolescent girls from high needs neighborhoods/communities
  • Possession of a valid TB test issued by the local county board of health or recognized medical authority
