About The Position

James Irwin Charter High School (JICHS) is seeking a dedicated and passionate High School Science Teacher to join our science department. The ideal candidate will inspire students to develop a love for science and facilitate their understanding of complex biological and chemical concepts. This role requires the ability to engage students, create an interactive learning environment, and foster critical thinking skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a science-related field.
  • Strong knowledge of scientific principles and practices, with a focus on high school curriculum.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to build rapport with students and create a positive learning environment.
  • Proficient in utilizing technology and instructional resources in the classroom.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior teaching experience at the high school level is advantageous but not mandatory for entry-level candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans for high school Chemistry and Biology in alignment with state and national science standards.
  • Conduct hands-on laboratory experiments and demonstrations to provide students with practical experience and foster scientific inquiry.
  • Utilize diverse teaching methods and materials to accommodate various learning styles and abilities.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress through assignments, quizzes, tests, and projects, providing constructive feedback to support academic growth.
  • Create a safe classroom environment that encourages student participation and collaboration.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance, grades, and assessments.
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents, and colleagues about student progress, expectations, and classroom activities.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and keep current with developments in the field of science education.
  • Contribute to school-wide events and activities, including monitoring detention on occasion, chaperoning Homecoming and Prom dances, proctoring study halls and/or labs, and sponsoring one of our ten Houses. These responsibilities are assigned during pre-service training and maintained throughout the academic year.
