About The Position

Mid-Pacific seeks an experienced, student-centered, and innovative teacher to lead learning in project-based classrooms. Mid-Pacific celebrates and supports a diverse range of pedagogical approaches. Facilitate learning in various project-based settings, fostering motivation and independence in learners while developing both content knowledge and soft skills necessary for success in education and life. Specific teaching assignments will include teaching STEM courses and various high school science courses, depending on experience (e.g., biology, chemistry, etc.). In Mid-Pacific Exploratory, teachers are responsible for covering core concepts from traditional disciplines during one longer, double-scheduled period through a problem/project-based learning approach.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university in core disciplinary areas of Science (Chemistry/Biology), Technology, and/or Engineering.
  • Designing authentic, experiential, and interdisciplinary experiences for students including project- and/or challenge-based learning strategies.
  • Working with faculty partners to design authentic classroom lessons that make a break from traditional content-based textbook learning.
  • Sculpting questions that motivate students to learn independently and in groups.
  • Incorporating educational technology into classroom activities that enable authentic skills and behaviors.
  • Drawing interdisciplinary connections and marshalling resources that serve questions across disciplines.
  • Working with community organizations to leverage student learning and create real-world applications and audiences for student work.
  • Planning field trips that take student learning beyond the classroom.
  • Planning and hosting presentations of learning to various audiences such as parents, administration, and outside community.
  • Designing and facilitating learning experiences in which students demonstrate understanding through the creation of authentic products, projects, performances, or presentations.
  • Developing curricular opportunities for students to apply knowledge and skills by creating tangible artifacts that reflect their learning and thinking.
  • The teacher will also possess outstanding interpersonal communication skills, team-orientation, and adaptive teaching and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage a budget and work effectively with outside vendors or community partners is also highly valued.

Nice To Haves

  • At least two years of teaching experience at the secondary level is preferred.
  • IB Experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach competencies and skills with pedagogical practices that align with the mission and vision of the school.
  • Prepare curriculum and lesson plans following Next Generation Science Standards and/or standards set by the International Baccalaureate Organization.
  • Incorporate differentiation and varied strategies to meet the needs of a range of learners.
  • Collaborate with other department members in developing and updating the STEM curriculum and assessment practices.
  • Prepare and administer formative and summative assessments of students deeper learning according to the Mid-Pacific Assessment Guidelines
  • Record and post student grades electronically in a timely manner.
  • Maintain effective classroom management, liaising with deans and parents as necessary.
  • Participate in faculty and departmental meetings and attend professional development workshops and educational conferences.
  • Maintain effective communication with parents and guardians as needed.
  • Carry out all homeroom / advisory responsibilities.
  • Determine budget needs and purchase equipment and materials for courses taught.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Participate in ongoing school-wide efforts to grow teaching practices.
  • Regular and predictable attendance at work.
  • Act as a role model by demonstrating safe work behaviors.
  • Identify, assess if necessary, and control hazards within the area of responsibility.
  • Ensure that equipment/supplies are properly maintained.
  • Maintain relevant knowledge of safety laws.
  • Mandatory reporting of sexual abuse to law enforcement or child protective services, and Human Resources.
