About The Position

The High School Programs Assistant supports the planning, coordination, and delivery of high school and youth-facing programs at The Marine Mammal Center. This role provides administrative, logistical, and programmatic support for workshops, training(s), events, outreach efforts, and participant engagement activities during the Center’s peak high school program season.

Requirements

  • Minimal organizational skills or attention to detail, multi-tasking, and time-management.
  • Minimal skills using Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Word), videoconference technology (Slack, Teams, Zoom), and other applications such as Canva, Google Drive, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with others thoughtfully and respectfully, applying self-awareness to foster trust and effective collaboration.
  • Willingness to support and participate in The Marine Mammal Center’s diversity, equity, and inclusion programs.
  • Ability to obtain clearance via livescan fingerprinting for U.S. Department of Justice to work directly with students.
  • This position requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to being currently enrolled in college or having an associate or bachelor’s degree in education, natural sciences, or related field; and at least 1 year of experience working with school groups.

  • Driving eligibility in accordance with The Marine Mammal Center’s requirements is preferred but not required. Applicants ages 18-20 are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of high school and youth programs by assisting with workshops, training weekends, stewardship events, Symposium preparation, tabling events, boat trip activities, and other youth-facing programming.
  • Help prepare materials, coordinate logistics, and support day-of activities to ensure programs run smoothly and effectively.
  • Support participant communications, follow-up, scheduling, and general administrative tasks related to high school programs.
  • Support youth participant check-ins, summer shift logistics, and contribute to a positive participant experience.
  • Update Youth Crew content in the learning management system and other program materials as assigned.
  • Support outreach request logistics, event preparation, and seasonal communications.
  • Support or co-lead Stewardship Saturday events, including preparation and day-of coordination.
  • Assist with Youth Crew training weekend and Symposium preparation and delivery.
  • Assist with Youth Crew cohort processes such as interested Youth Crew applicant information sessions, project tracking, project topic approval support, project draft review coordination, Youth Crew application review support, interview preparation, and exit interview support.
  • Provide logistical support for program-related events and seasonal activities, including setup, cleanup, purchasing, materials organization, and documentation.
  • Organize materials, supplies, records and other resources needed for effective program delivery.
  • Participate in onboarding, required trainings, internal meetings, and cross-functional coordination with School and Youth Programs staff and other Center partners as assigned.
  • Support seasonal onboarding and offboarding tasks.
  • May represent and promote the Center through donor cultivation participation in partnership with the department as opportunities arise.
  • Perform special projects and research as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
