About The Position

We are looking for a results-driven and relationship-oriented postsecondary leader who excels at college advising while supporting team effectiveness, driving student outcomes, and building systems that ensure students persist and succeed beyond high school. You will have a caseload of Senior students to provide individual college counseling and application support. You will also lead the Junior College Access course and college access programming (workshops, trips, guest speakers). Additionally, you will assist the Director of Graduation & Post-Secondary Success with coaching and supporting two counselors. Requirements

  • Masters degree in School Counseling and valid permanent NYS guidance counselor certification.
  • 4-5 years experience developing and facilitating workshops and classes for students, staff, and caregivers.
  • Professional experience in school counseling, college access and success programs, or related fields.
  • Knowledge of the postsecondary discernment process.
  • Knowledge of NY State high school graduation requirements, including requirements for a Regents diploma and the CDOS Pathway.
  • Familiarity with PowerSchool, Scoir, Slate, or other college guidance management systems to track and report on key metrics.
  • Strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities of working with First Generation, Black, Brown, and/or economically-vulnerable college-bound students and caregivers.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Experience working in and enjoying a fast-moving, and entrepreneurial environment.
  • Hold yourself to high professional and ethical standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual college counseling and application support to a caseload of Senior students.
  • Lead the Junior College Access course and college access programming (workshops, trips, guest speakers).
  • Assist the Director of Graduation & Post-Secondary Success with coaching and supporting two counselors.
  • Create, communicate, and execute a school-wide plan that supports scholars in building the skills, strength of character, and emotional well-being to apply to and attend their best-fit institution post-high school.
  • Individual student advising, applications, financial aid, and tracking progress for Postsecondary Advising & College Access (Grades 11-12).
  • Lead and continuously improve the junior-year college access curriculum, ensuring all students are prepared for the college application and financial aid process (Junior College Access Instruction (Grade 11)).
  • Develop and manage systems to track and support alumni persistence in college, including outreach, resource-sharing, and intervention for at-risk students (Alumni Success & Persistence Support).
  • Support the design and execution of college and career readiness programming, including early exposure workshops, and school-wide initiatives (Program Strategy & Postsecondary Readiness Initiatives (Grades 8–12)).
  • Provide day-to-day guidance, coaching, and accountability for school counselors; serve as the point person in the Director’s absence (Team Support & Light Supervision).
