About The Position

Wakefield Memorial High School is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE) substitute Guidance Counselor for an approximately 8-week assignment. The substitute counselor will provide short-term academic, personal, and college/career counseling support to students, working closely with students, families, and school staff to maintain continuity of services during the absence. REPORTS TO: Director of Guidance and Building Principal KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work or School Counseling MA License as School Counselor or eligible for licensure Prior experience working with students in a school counseling setting is preferred

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work or School Counseling
  • MA License as School Counselor or eligible for licensure
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Understanding of student confidentiality and school counseling ethics
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize student needs
  • Familiarity with high school academic and postsecondary planning

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with students in a school counseling setting is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic, personal/social, and college/career counseling to assigned students
  • Support student scheduling and course adjustments as needed
  • Meet individually or in small groups with students
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff
  • Communicate with parents/guardians as appropriate
  • Complete required documentation and reports
  • Make referrals to internal and external support services when necessary
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow district and school policies
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by administration
