About The Position

Indian Rocks Christian School (IRCS) is seeking a dedicated Christian educator to serve as the Middle School Guidance Counselor. The ideal candidate is a child advocate focused on early intervention and on developing the skills students need to succeed. This role involves helping students overcome obstacles to their academic, spiritual, and social growth while preparing them to make biblically sound life decisions. The counselor will provide support to students, parents, and teachers, facilitating a positive school climate and ensuring students transition successfully from elementary to middle and middle to high school.
Must give testimony and evidence of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and sense the call of God to a serving ministry.

Requirements

• A collaborative, supportive leader who shows humility, drive, emotional intelligence, positivity, and loyalty to the IRCS vision and mission
• A Master’s Degree in Guidance Counseling, Education, or a related field is preferred, with coursework in counseling principles, testing, and psychology.
• Minimum of three years of successful teaching or counseling experience.
• Must be able to obtain and remain current with ACSI Counselor Certification.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to facilitate mediation and build relationships with students and families.
• Knowledge of federal and state laws related to students with exceptional needs (e.g., IDEA) and current research on school climate and student development.
• Demonstrate a consistent Christian lifestyle as referenced by the Mission, Statement of Faith, and Leadership Guidelines of Indian Rocks.
• Must be an active member of Indian Rocks Church as defined by regular attendance in worship services, regular attendance/involvement in an Indian Rocks Connection Group or Small Group, and commitment to systematic stewardship and faithful in tithing.

Responsibilities

• Provide advising services to individual students and small groups to foster spiritual formation, social skills, biblical conflict resolution, and self-discipline.
• Monitor student academic progress and collaborate with the Principal and Educational Specialists to support students with specific learning needs or exceptionalities.
• Assist students and parents in developing academic schedules and guide them through transitions from elementary to middle school and from middle to high school.
• Serve as a resource for faculty and parents, providing recommendations and strategies to support student mastery of standards and behavioral growth.
• Analyze and interpret standardized test data to help staff, students, and parents understand academic growth and assist in educational planning.
• Coordinate and lead classroom guidance sessions on topics such as school success skills, character education, and coping with struggles.
• Maintain strong communication with parents, including holding conferences to address student needs, while navigating difficult or stressful conversations with compassion.
• Perform necessary administrative duties, including maintaining cumulative files, ensuring class coverage, and other assigned school responsibilities.
• Adhere to professional codes of ethics and legal standards, including reporting requirements for child protection.
