About The Position

The High School English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher inspires students, fosters a love for literature and writing, and helps develop critical thinking and communication skills. This position involves teaching various levels of ELA, including literature, writing, grammar, and vocabulary, to high school students (grades 9-12).

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, English Education, or a related field.
  • Certification: Valid teaching certification in Secondary English/ELA for 9th-12th grade.
  • Experience: Previous teaching experience at the high school level preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of English literature, grammar, and composition.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate students.
  • Proficiency in integrating technology into the classroom.

Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Planning and Instruction: Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that adhere to state and school curriculum standards.
  • Teach a range of ELA courses, including but not limited to Pre AP English 9, AP Seminar, AP Language/Literature Composition, English 11, English 12, AP Research, Creative Writing, offering a range of American, British, and World Literature of all genres throughout the four-year curriculum.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Integrate technology and multimedia resources to enhance the learning experience.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Design and administer assessments to evaluate student progress and understanding.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback on student assignments, essays, and projects.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and progress.
  • Classroom Management: Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies to ensure a safe and orderly learning environment.
  • Address and resolve student behavior issues in accordance with school policies.
  • Student Support and Engagement: Foster a supportive and encouraging atmosphere for all students.
  • Identify and support students with varying academic needs, including those requiring additional help or advanced challenges.
  • Encourage students to develop critical thinking, analytical, and creative skills.
  • Professional Development and Collaboration: Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in ELA education.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and parents to support student achievement and school initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of school-wide literacy programs.
  • Extracurricular Involvement: Advise or coach extracurricular activities, such as the school newspaper, literary magazine, or debate team, as needed.
