About The Position

Job Title: High School English/Language Arts Teacher Job Classification: Licensed Instructional Reports to: High School Building Administrator Work Schedule: Academic Calendar General Description: Teach High School ELA to the students at Career Academy High School as required by Indiana State Standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in English or Education
  • Have or be willing to obtain a valid Indiana Teacher License to teach ELA.
  • Competency in the administration and interpretation of academic ability testing
  • Ability to use technology for documentation and preparation of professional materials
  • Ability to teach and assist students in the use of computer applications
  • Ability to communicate assessment results, in written and oral forms, to parents and professionals
  • Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate behavior plans for use in general and special education settings
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, allocate time, and maintain schedule flexibility

Responsibilities

  • Plan and Deliver Standards-Based Instruction: Develop and implement rigorous, standards-aligned lessons and instructional materials for the assigned subject.
  • Assess and Evaluate Student Learning: Conduct ongoing student assessments, grade assignments, and use performance data to drive instruction.
  • Differentiate Instruction and Provide Support: Adjust teaching methods to meet diverse student needs and provide modifications (e.g., for IEP/504 plans).
  • Manage a Positive Learning Environment: Establish and enforce rules to promote a safe, organized, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Communicate and Engage with Stakeholders: Maintain regular, effective communication with students, parents, and guardians regarding progress and expectations.
  • Maintain Accurate Records: Organize and maintain complete and accurate records for grades, attendance, and confidential student data.
  • Collaborate Professionally: Work with colleagues and administrators on student success plans, interdisciplinary learning, and school committees.
  • Fulfill School-Wide and Administrative Duties: Adhere to all school policies, be a positive role model, and attend required school activities and meetings.
  • Participate in Professional Development: Engage in ongoing training and workshops to enhance professional competence and instructional skills.
  • Provide Direct Student and Program Support: Offer targeted instruction (e.g., study skills, college readiness) and contribute to overall program development or office operations.
  • Foundational Professionalism: Demonstrate consistent attendance, punctuality, and adherence to all school policies and procedures.
  • High School ELA Teacher is required to attend and/or participate in such other activities as directed by the Administrator such as: faculty meetings (before or after school hours), open houses, commencement exercises, chaperone student activities, provide guidance for students, participate on faculty committees, study and help resolve school problems.
