About The Position

The Spanish Dual-Enrollment FAU High School educator, under the supervision of the Principal and High School Assistant Principal, will provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the assigned academic subject area to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The role includes developing curriculum and adhering to the standards aligned to FAU’s requirements for Spanish courses. The Spanish teacher must be fluent in Spanish and English to teach all levels of Spanish, including Spanish for native speakers.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Spanish or a related field with 18+ graduate hours in Spanish from an accredited university
  • Holds a valid Florida Educator’s Certificate or Statement of Eligibility in Spanish K-12
  • 1-2 years of experience teaching high school, community college, or university Spanish advanced coursework
  • Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English

Responsibilities

  • Identify and apply relevant educational research-based instructional strategies in order to develop engaging and differentiated lessons, assignments, and assessments.
  • Develop and implement lessons and assignments, and a syllabus for each course that fulfills the requirements of a dual-enrollment Spanish course.
  • Provide timely, appropriate, and actionable feedback to students.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
  • Maintain and use accurate, comprehensive documentation and evidence of students' progress and development.
  • Work cooperatively with administrators, teachers, team leaders, and other staff as needed to meet curriculum objectives.
  • Ensure accommodations are provided in accordance with the guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and 504 Plans.
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal assessment.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Code of Student Conduct and other applicable school and university policies and guidelines.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials, as needed.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, teachers, and school leadership.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on school committees, as needed.
  • Engage in research activities to further the school’s mission and to generate advancements in science education and in teaching and learning.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Promote College and Career Readiness for all students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
