About The Position

The High School Counselor at Coral Academy of Science Las Vegas provides comprehensive counseling services to students in grades 9–12. This position supports students’ academic achievement, post-secondary planning, and social-emotional development through individual counseling, group guidance, and collaboration with teachers, families, and outside resources. The High School Counselor ensures students are on track for graduation and prepared for college, career, and life success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in School Counseling or related field.
  • Valid Nevada School Counseling license or eligibility for licensure.
  • Strong understanding of adolescent development and counseling practices.
  • Commitment to student success and equity.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information responsibly.
  • Collaborative approach to working with staff, students, and families.
  • Problem-solving and crisis intervention skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Two or more years of experience as a high school counselor.
  • Knowledge of college admissions processes, financial aid, and scholarship opportunities.
  • Experience in a charter or college-prep school environment.
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic counseling and guidance to ensure students meet graduation requirements.
  • Assist students with course selection, scheduling, and development of four-year academic plans.
  • Coordinate and support college and career readiness activities, including college fairs, FAFSA workshops, and scholarship information.
  • Deliver social-emotional learning and mental health support through individual and group counseling.
  • Work with teachers, administrators, and parents to support student success and implement intervention strategies.
  • Identify students in crisis and connect them to appropriate resources and support services.
  • Maintain accurate student records, transcripts, and documentation of counseling activities.
  • Assist with state testing coordination, credit recovery, and academic interventions.
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment that promotes student well-being.
