About The Position

North Marion School District is seeking a compassionate and student-centered High School Counselor to support the academic, social, and emotional well-being of all students. This position plays a vital role in creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment where every student feels a sense of belonging and is empowered to succeed. The School Counselor develops and implements a comprehensive counseling program aligned with district goals and student needs. Through individual and group support, classroom lessons, and collaboration with staff and families, this role helps students build resilience, navigate challenges, and plan for their future.

Requirements

  • Valid Oregon School Counselor License (or ability to obtain; conditional license considered)
  • Successful background and criminal history clearance
  • Knowledge of child development, counseling practices, and behavioral support strategies
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and staff
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment
  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Ability to manage emotionally demanding situations with professionalism and care
  • Ability to meet the physical and communication demands of the position

Nice To Haves

  • Experience implementing comprehensive school counseling programs
  • Experience with MTSS, IEP, and 504 processes
  • Bilingual skills or experience working with diverse student populations

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and small-group counseling to support students’ social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs
  • Develop and deliver classroom lessons focused on social skills, emotional regulation, and academic success
  • Support students in setting goals, building coping strategies, and making positive decisions
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and specialists to support student success
  • Participate in Student Support Team, MTSS, IEP, and 504 meetings and contribute recommendations and strategies
  • Coordinate and monitor 504 plans to ensure appropriate accommodations and equitable access for students
  • Provide crisis intervention and conflict resolution support as needed
  • Connect students and families with community resources and additional supports
  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate, confidential records
  • Promote a positive school climate that fosters belonging, respect, and student engagement
  • Support school-wide behavior expectations and proactive student support strategies
  • Maintain professional growth through training, collaboration, and ongoing learning
  • Serve as a trusted and ethical role model for students
