About The Position

HFA Project Specialist II is responsible for managing and executing unique, non-recurring accounting initiatives that support organizational and departmental goals. This role will report to Controller II and support the accounting department as well as other departments in HFA as needed. The role emphasizes project planning, execution, cross‑functional coordination, and change management, while leveraging financial analysis and process improvement to ensure compliance, accuracy, and sustainable results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business management or related field or equivalent relevant work experience
  • 3–4 years of project management or accounting experience, with exposure to project-based work.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar) a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business management, or related field
  • Experience with process improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with system implementation or migration projects.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work on high-impact initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Accounting Project Management Leads and manages accounting-focused projects, including system implementations, process redesigns, and financial analysis initiatives.
  • Performs detailed research and analysis on accounting issues and provides recommendations for resolution.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams (Operations, Claims, Tech) to ensure successful project execution.
  • Collaborate with the Modernization Team on accounting modernization initiatives and system upgrades, contributing to project planning, functional requirements, implementation activities, and issue resolution to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Identifies potential risks within accounting processes and projects, proposing mitigation strategies to minimize impact.
  • Monitors and reports project progress to senior management, proactively addressing obstacles and adjusting plans as needed.
  • Monitors project timelines, budgets, and deliverables to ensure successful completion and alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Accounting Operations Develops, documents, and enhances procedures to improve efficiency, accuracy, and consistency in financial reporting.
  • Partners with other accounting team members on initiatives aimed at cost reduction, improve customer experience, and increased operational efficiency.
  • Ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), internal policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assists with internal and external audits, supporting operational audit requests as needed.
  • Assists in preparing the annual budget by compiling data, analyzing historical trends, and validating department submissions.
  • Administrative Support Collaborates with senior management to align projects and initiatives with the organizational strategy, identifying key deliverables, milestones, and success measures
  • Conducts research, compiles data, and supports Accounting leadership in preparing presentations and reports using PowerPoint, Canva, or similar tools
  • Represents the Accounting department on relevant committees.
  • Other duties as assigned
