About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Manager of Vehicle Communications, safely participate in the maintenance, including inspecting, testing, adjusting, repairing, design, modification, and installation of communication equipment and electrical systems in all company vehicles, stationary equipment, and permanent locations, including radio tower locations (transmitters, receivers, automated passenger counters, and surveillance systems, etc.). Receive assignments in the form of verbal and/or written repair orders, indicating work required, or a description of the symptoms of the trouble; independently diagnose trouble. There is minimal supervision, consisting of occasional checks for adequacy and thoroughness of work. For short periods, continuous direction is received while engaged in the most complex repair or adjustment operation.

Requirements

  • Ability to understand, utilize, and accurately record information in computerized systems, such as the Maintenance Management System (MMS).
  • Knowledgeable and familiar with current and new communication systems and system modifications as adopted by the Company, manufacturers, the City, State and Federal government.
  • Maintain complete supply of trade‑required hand tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical instructions and manuals and make working diagrams, circuits, electrical systems, controls, instruments, and equipment.
  • Ability to identify and properly handle (contain exposure, dispose, etc.) various types of chemicals (hazardous and non‑hazardous) in various situations and environments.
  • Ability to preplan daily work schedules.
  • Knowledgeable and familiar with current safety procedures such as, but not limited to, MTCE 3.151 ‑ Hazardous Communication Program.
  • Must be high school graduate.
  • Must have successfully completed a two year program in electronics technology, computer hardware or engineering from an accredited community college, technical school, or have two (2) years of technical working experience with extensive background in electrical and electronic systems, video surveillance systems, and system malfunctions.
  • Willing and able to work various shifts, overtime as directed, holiday duty as required, and assume days off as assigned.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to preplan daily work schedules.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license (Type 3).
  • Pass company‑sponsored physical examination and drug test.

Nice To Haves

  • Trade school graduate a plus.
  • Possession of a valid Federal Communications Commission General Radiotelephone Operator License is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Receive assignments in the form of verbal and/or written repair orders, indicating work required, or a description of the symptoms of the trouble; independently diagnose trouble.
  • Act as a relief supervisor in the absence of the manager.
  • Perform other related duties, as required.
