About The Position

Helix Plant Control Room Operator This position follows a 12‑hour swing shift schedule, rotating between day and night shifts. Job Summary The Helix Plant Control Room Operator is responsible for monitoring and operating all systems at the Helix Energetic Materials Facility. This includes chemical processing equipment, packaging operations, material handling systems, utilities, and environmental systems. Operators work from an on-site control room located near the manufacturing area. During normal operations, work is completed from the control room. During alarms, upsets, or abnormal conditions, Operators may be required to enter the plant to check equipment, confirm conditions, or assist with response activities. This role requires attention to detail, basic technical skills, and strict compliance with operating procedures and Basis of Safety requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to work with computer-based systems and digital controls.
  • At least 2 years of experience in manufacturing, industrial, chemical, military, or similar operations.
  • Mechanical or electrical aptitude and willingness to learn plant systems.
  • Ability to safely access plant areas including stairs, platforms, and confined spaces.
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including.

Responsibilities

  • Complete all required Helix Plant Operator training, including walkdowns and SOP reviews.
  • Monitor and control plant systems using the site's Distributed Control System (DCS) or similar controls.
  • Start, stop, and adjust process equipment within approved limits.
  • Respond to alarms or abnormal conditions by checking equipment and supporting corrective actions.
  • Monitor process conditions such as pressure, temperature, level, flow, and density.
  • Maintain accurate electronic shift logs, OEE reports, and shift handover notes.
  • Read and follow P&IDs, system trends, equipment labels, and written procedures.
  • Follow all Standard Operating Procedures, Emergency Procedures, and Basis of Safety requirements.
  • Understand safe operating limits of critical systems, including: o Interlocks and automatic shutdown systems o Relief and vent systems o Electrical area classifications o Safeguards for handling energetic materials
  • Report abnormal conditions, near misses, equipment issues, or unsafe behavior immediately.
  • Remain focused in the control room and avoid distractions while operating plant systems.
  • Follow all PPE requirements when entering production areas.
  • Learn and understand plant equipment such as pumps, mixers, controls, fillers, conveyors, packaging equipment, and utilities.
  • Troubleshoot basic operating issues using alarms, trends, instruments, and field checks.
  • Understand plant utilities and how they support operations.
  • Explain basic process flow diagrams (PFDs) for major plant systems when needed.
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors, maintenance, engineering, and other personnel.
  • Notify appropriate personnel when help is needed during abnormal or emergency conditions.
  • Provide clear and accurate information during shift changes and ongoing operations.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and support safe, reliable plant operations.
  • Report to work on time and be fit for duty.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and controlled control room environment.
  • Follow all confidentiality, security, and material-handling requirements.
  • Participate in drills, refresher training, and ongoing skill development.
