About The Position

Lone Star Paving is a paving contractor operating in the Central Texas region, specializing in heavy highway and civil projects. The company manages paving crews, Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA), aggregate, trucking, milling, and quality control. They are a family-oriented organization committed to the safety and health of their employees. The Asphalt Heavy Paving Equipment Operator is a key member of the asphalt team, working with the crew foreman. This role primarily involves operating various types of asphalt paving machines. The ideal candidate should be familiar with different paving machines and possess a thorough understanding of asphalt paving operations.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years' experience within the asphalt industry
  • 1-2 years' experience of operating paving equipment
  • Must be organized with a detail-oriented mindset
  • Must be positive, friendly, and professional
  • Ability to work well with others in a group or one-on-one setting
  • Working knowledge of asphalt production and associated equipment, and an understanding of operations and safety requirements is required
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations

Nice To Haves

  • Heavy equipment experience is a plus
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Must be able to run, maneuver, and utilize the equipment
  • Inspects equipment before operating to make sure it is in good working order and ready for the day, including post shift inspection for the same
  • Practices awareness of others working alongside the machines, and exercises safety practices at all times
  • Perform general laborer duties associated with asphalt paving, patching, or prep crews
  • Will be expected to leave the machine as required by foreman and job perimeters to help shovel, rake, and handle other tools and equipment
  • Prior to concluding a shift, equipment must be cleaned and organized to company standards
  • May be called upon to run power tools
  • Must demonstrate coordination of function and possess the strength required to use all controls of the equipment on heavy equipment safely
  • Ability to remain stationary in the seat or operating area of the equipment for prolonged periods
  • Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment and movement of materials
  • Assist in the placement, moving, and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones and other traffic control devices as needed
  • Problem-solving skills to diagnose issues with equipment
  • Strong oral communication skills to interact with other workers on the jobsite
  • Perform other duties as requested and assigned
  • Promote, execute and adhere to the company's safety policy, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture
  • Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others
  • Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas
  • Collaborate with any project teams on other special initiatives, as required
