About The Position

Saiia Construction Company LLC, a MasTec company, is currently hiring for experienced Heavy Equipment Operators to join our team. The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for, but not limited to operating heavy equipment including excavator, dozers, graders, dump trucks, front-end loaders, compactors, scrapers, and water trucks to move materials to and from designated areas, participate in required training and ensure all established safety rules, procedures, policies, OSHA and MSHA regulations are followed. Requirements

  • Experienced Heavy Equipment Operators
  • Knowledge of EPA, OSHA, MSHA and other related state and federal regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to use email, smart phone, tablet, or computer to manage company information and documents.
  • Ability to draft routine reports and correspondence.
  • Must be able to maintain acceptable attendance standards per employee handbook.
  • Approach and complete work in a meticulous, thorough, and timely manner.
  • Ability to Lift/Carry 0-10 lbs.: Occasionally
  • Ability to Lift/Carry 10-50 lbs.: Occasionally
  • Ability to Reach Above: Occasionally
  • Ability to Bend/Stoop: Occasionally
  • Ability to Use Hands for Manipulations: Continuously
  • Vision Abilities: Close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Hearing Abilities: Must be able to hear equipment and facility signals, horns and alarms; radio, and phone communications.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment including excavator, dozers, graders, dump trucks, front-end loaders, compactors, scrapers, and water trucks to move materials to and from designated areas.
  • Participate in required training.
  • Ensure all established safety rules, procedures, policies, OSHA and MSHA regulations are followed.
  • Operate excavator, which digs holes and trenches and removes and transports earth, gravel, and dumps soil, sand, ore, rock, gravel, and industrial byproducts, and other such materials in stockpiles or transport trucks.
  • Start engine, move hand and foot levers to control hydraulic shovel or other attachments.
  • Use bucket to dig trenches and holes of specified length, depth, and width, remove loosened material and put in piles or transport trucks.
  • Understand and utilize GPS grade technology on this type of machine (may be needed).
  • Operate bulldozer or grader which is used to gouge out, level, and distribute soil, sand, ore, rock, gravel, industrial byproducts, and other such materials.
  • Push or clear trees and rocks which is preparatory to diverse types of constructing projects.
  • Fasten attachments to bulldozer or grader with clevis or wedge-pin hitches (on occasion).
  • Move levers and depress pedals to maneuver bulldozer or grader and raise, lower, and tilt the blade and diverse types of attachments to clear right of way.
  • Feel levers and listen for stalling action of engine to estimate depth of cut.
  • Operate bulldozer or grader in successive passes over terrain to raise or lower terrain to specified or designed grade or elevation.
  • Understand and utilize GPS grade technology on this type of machine (may be needed).
  • Operate truck equipped with dump body to transport and dump loose materials, such as sand, soil, rock, gravel, coal, ore, industrial byproducts, and other such materials.
  • Pull levers or turn crank to tilt body and dump contents.
  • Move hand and foot controls to move truck forward and backward to loosen and dump material adhering to dump bed body.
  • Operate tractor-drawn or self-propelled scraper to move, haul, and grade earth on construction sites.
  • Move switches, levers, and pedals to control the loading gate on pan or bowl, to adjust depth of cut, to raise and close filled pan or bowl for hauling, and to spread or dump earth.
  • Connect hydraulic hoses, belts, mechanical linkage, or power takeoff shaft to tractor to provide power to raise, lower, or tilt attachment.
  • Move levers to control tool bars, carriers, and disks.
  • Operate a truck to transport water for construction projects, filling and transporting potable water to crews working at job sites and driving a truck equipped with sprinkling attachment to spray water on roadways to control dust.
  • Make inspections, oil, grease, service and make normal operating adjustments to the Water Truck.
  • Lift/move transported materials as needed.
