About The Position

This position operates heavy equipment in the repair and maintenance of rights-of-way and other property and in the collection and transport of refuse Operates a street sweeper to clean city streets. Operates a backhoe, front-end loader, and other heavy equipment. Operates and tractor and bush hog. Operates a front-end loader, rear-loader, or side-loader along a predetermined route to collect refuse. Inspects dumpsters for repair or maintenance needs and makes report to supervisor. Operates a roll-off truck to deliver and pick-up roll-off containers. Operates a knuckle-boom truck to collect yard waste, recyclable materials, and other items along a pre-determined route. Operates a dump truck and trailer. Maintains radio contact with dispatchers to send and receive information. Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment; performs pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections. Assists in traffic control at work sites. Performs related duties.

Requirements

Requires a valid CDL
Knowledge of the techniques, equipment, and supplies used in street and right-of-way maintenance.
Knowledge of city and departmental safety policies and procedures.
Knowledge of the geography of the city, including street names and locations.
Skill in the operation of assigned vehicles, trucks and heavy equipment.
Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
