About The Position

Operates heavy equipment, performing pre-operation inspections, identifying and reporting equipment issues to the Lead Mechanic for repair. The operator is responsible for refueling equipment and adding fluids as needed, and ensuring compliance with company policies, safety, and maintenance procedures. This role involves operating various heavy equipment such as scrapers, wheel type or crawler tractors with a dozer blade, blade or bucket attachment, compactors, roll-off refuse trucks, loaders, motor graders, and pneumatic tire scrapers. The operator compiles daily equipment reports, controls well fires, communicates with dispatchers regarding delays, unsafe conditions, accidents, and equipment breakdowns, and stays informed of weather conditions. They are expected to continuously improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively to provide quality customer service, including working closely with traffic control spotters to identify fill areas for dumping solid waste.

Requirements

  • 2 Years Experience Required
  • HS Graduate or Equivalent Education Required
  • Driver must meet Motor Vehicle Records standards set by company

Responsibilities

  • Performs pre-operation inspections of equipment, identifying equipment issues and reporting issues to the Lead Mechanic for repair
  • Refuels equipment and adds fluids as needed
  • Ensures compliance with company policies, safety and maintenance procedures
  • Operates heavy equipment such as scrapers, wheel type or crawler tractors with a dozer blade, blade or bucket attachment, compactors, roll-off refuse trucks, loaders, motor graders and pneumatic tire scrapers
  • Compiles daily equipment reports consisting of logging the number of loads excavated and the number of hours spent operating equipment
  • Controls well fires by smothering them with dirt, isolating them and/or wetting them with water
  • Communicates with dispatchers concerning delays, unsafe conditions, accidents and equipment breakdowns
  • Keeps informed of the weather conditions
  • Demonstrates continuous efforts to improve operation, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service
  • Works closely with traffic control spotters to identify fill areas to be used for dumping solid waste.
