About The Position

The Washington Military Department (WMD) is seeking a skilled HVAC Technician to join our facilities team, located in Spokane, WA. This position plays an important role in maintaining comfortable, efficient, and safe building environments for our employees and the public. This position works under the general supervision of the Maintenance Specialist 4 and is a fully qualified HVAC Technician responsible for performing journey level maintenance work required to accomplish all phases of building maintenance and construction work. Requirements

Journey level standing as a refrigeration mechanic or steamfitter as attested by:
Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in refrigeration or steamfitter trades, OR
Full journey level status in Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union, OR
Five years of experience in refrigeration and/or steamfitter's trade, OR
Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.
Vocational or trade school training as a steamfitter or refrigeration mechanic will substitute year-for-year for the experience requirement for up to two years of the experience requirement.
Must successfully complete the appropriate background checks required for employment and to obtain/maintain a DoD Common Access Card (CAC) in order to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret-level security clearance.
Must be willing to sign releases of information and shall not have access to any investigative materials and files.
Valid to drive in the State of Washington.
Must meet requirements of the REAL ID Act.
Willingness to work on a Military Controlled Access Installation.
Must meet access requirements / background check which can be found in the Camp Murray Access Requirements Policy (Unified Policy No. 18-01).
This includes possession of an Enhanced Driver's License, or other REAL ID Compliant Identification.

Universal CFC Recovery Certification.
Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in mechanical trades and HVAC work.
Principles of operation of HVAC systems.
Occupational hazards and safety practices of the HVAC trade.

Responsibilities

Independently perform skilled installation, maintenance, and repair of all phases of heating, ventilation, and cooling.
Performs preventative maintenance of HVAC related duties.
Performs inspection, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems.
Operates, inspects, maintains, repairs, removes and/or installs heating/cooling system components including: compressors, belts, bearing, motors, fans, heat exchangers, burners, filters, and controls.
Responsible for repairing heat pumps and air conditioning systems.
Performs inspections, maintenance, and repair of hot water boiler systems.
Performs emergency, routine and safety work orders assigned related to HVAC.
Responsible to order materials as required related to HVAC installation and maintenance requirements.
